Todd Kinsella, PhD

Todd is Chief Scientific Officer, Drug Discovery & Translation of Expedition Medicines. 

Joining Expedition Medicines in 2024, Todd brings over 25 years of experience in drug discovery and development, with expertise spanning both small molecule and antibody-based therapeutic approaches. He has scientific and executive leadership roles, driving drug development programs from target discovery through early clinical development and has contributed to large pharma partnerships and strategic collaborations. Along his work at Expedition Medicines, Todd is a Science Partner at Flagship Pioneering as well as a scientific co-founder of Torch Therapeutics, a bispecific antibody-based drug discovery company employing novel technology to achieve truly cell and/​or tissue specific inhibition of high value targets. 

Before Expedition Medicines, Todd was Head of Biology and Senior Vice President on the executive leadership team at Vividion Therapeutics, where he helped establish the platform and core drug discovery units while also leading the company’s covalent drug portfolio. His work there included advancing several first-in-class drug candidates targeting ​“undruggable” proteins into clinical development (clinical programs & INDs across both oncology and immunology). Some of Todd’s pioneering contributions in the field of covalent drug discovery are summarized in two papers, published in Nature & Science, describing the discovery of clinical covalent molecules to undruggable proteins.

Todd holds a Ph.D. in Molecular Pharmacology from Stanford University and has authored more than 45 patents and publications in target discovery, oncology, immunology, immuno-oncology, virology, metabolism, cardiovascular disease and muscle biology.
